One day of CroFa in CIMOS foundry Roč d.o.o.
May 30 2025
On Tuesday, May 20, 2025, the Croatian Foundry Association organized a one-day visit to Cimos Foundry Roč doo – an aluminum casting foundry – for its 26 interested members.
We were welcomed by cheerful hosts with the director of the foundry, Walter Pahor, and seven chief technologists, along with the production planner, and the occupational safety manager.
At the very beginning, the introductory part of the presentation about the company was given by the foundry director Walter Pahor, who introduced us in detail to the organization and technology of producing aluminum castings by gravity die casting and the use of low-pressure casting.
He emphasized that they have 185 employees, of which 35 are management staff, including workers in the maintenance of tools and machines, process development, i.e. technology and quality, and process planning and supply; in other words, in technical and technological organizational functions.
They are extremely proud of their development and investments in equipment and knowledge to date, as they have reached the pinnacle of the world of suppliers of aluminum castings in the automotive industry. The production process itself is characterized by precise quality control in each production cycle, respecting the high standards and demanding parameters required for automotive castings.
The basic and main raw material are ingots batched and palletized with control cards in the following qualities: AlSi8Cu, AlSi7Mg, AlSi10Mg.
The spectrometer at the Roč Foundry is commonly used for chemical analysis – checking incoming raw materials as well as controlling the melt before and after pouring. A large percentage of cast products have cores in a wide range of weights from 0.2 kg to 2.5 kg, which is why nine croning machines are used to prepare cores and stock, some of which must also be coated. The Roč Foundry itself operates in three shifts.
After the exchange of experiences, the members of the association were extremely satisfied with what they saw. The Croatian Foundry Association thanked the director and all colleagues for the unforgettable welcome and hospitality.
We invited them to participate in our ongoing visits to other foundries, which was gladly accepted.
After the visit, we organized a get-together and lunch at the “Gostiona Putnika” where we talked about our impressions of the foundry and the future plans of the Association.
The Croatian Foundry Association has been nurturing this comprehensive approach for years and considers it an essential part of its program of activities.
