Young Researchers Competition 2026

March 23 2026

Dear WFO Members,

On behalf of the World Foundry Organisation (WFO), we kindly ask you to promote the 3rd edition of the Young Research Competition (YRC) among your members (companies, national universities and company R&D departments), including disseminating information to students, PhD candidates, and academic staff.

We would appreciate a quick promotion, as the initial deadline to submit an abstract and a 2-minute video presentation is ending on March 31, 2026.

The Young Research Competition is an international initiative organised by the World Foundry Organization and dedicated to young researchers, PhD candidates, and early-career professionals working in the broad field of foundry engineering, materials science, and related manufacturing technologies. The event will gather previously selected 20 research projects among the proposals submitted by young researchers and early career professionals all over the world. The projects will be presented through 15-minute-long videos and showcased to internationally renowned industry professionals. The conference will once again be held in an online format, ensuring wide international accessibility and participation. The conference will be hold on June 8th-9th. You can find more information about the conference here: https://wfoyrc.com/

Following the success of the previous two editions, which gathered young scientists and experts from universities and research institutions and the R&D divisions of companies worldwide, the 3rd Young Research Competition aims to further strengthen the global platform for knowledge exchange, scientific discussion, and the promotion of young talent in the foundry sector. Feedback from past participants clearly confirmed the high scientific value of the event and its importance for building international academic and industrial networks at an early career stage.

A key objective of the conference is to support and motivate young researchers by recognising outstanding scientific contributions. Therefore, the organisers have established attractive awards for the best presentations, including a total prize pool of €14,000 for the 3 top authors and a fully funded participation of 10 top authors in the 76th World Foundry Congress, one of the most prestigious global events in the foundry industry. We firmly believe that your involvement strongly contributes to the promotion of the event.
